Empathy
Both stylists, Nicole and Julia have experienced hair loss themselves so they understand not only the physical loss, but also the emotional toll that hair loss can have on a person. They understand hearing, “it’s just hair” doesn’t help you feel better. Feeling like yourself and not having to constantly worry about hair loss makes you feel better, and they are determined to find a hair system which will make that a reality for you again. Because they have both experienced hair loss, they also understand the need for privacy and compassion during what can be an emotional time. For that reason, Madeline’s has perfected not only the art of hair replacement, but also the experience that goes along with it. All consultations are allotted plenty of time and are done in a private consultation room. We listen to your needs, desires, and concerns and work with you to create the right hair system for you. We then work with you during your styling appointment to get the system to look and feel like you. After you have worn your system for two weeks we want to follow up with you to see how everything has been working for you and make adjustments if needed. We take the time to make sure we’ve not only selected the right system for you, but also to make sure you are comfortable working with it and caring for it. Both stylists can often be heard saying, “I want to hear from you if you need anything at all between now and the next time I see you!” Madeline’s is invested in not only helping you recreate your style, but also in helping you feel confident and comfortable when working with your hair system.
Quote from Owner, Stylist, Nicole
“It helps that I have personally gone through the experience of losing my hair due to Alopecia. I know firsthand how upsetting it can be and how it can affect a person’s self-esteem. I once sat in that same styling chair at my consultation holding back tears, so I know it’s a sensitive topic and a lot of the time it helps our clients just knowing I understand that. I know when I first started losing my hair I felt like the only person in the whole world who had experienced it. So to get to be that “other person” who has been through it and can relate to not only the hair loss part, but also the emotional roller coaster that goes with it is comforting. I feel blessed to not only help my clients regain their hair, but also help them get through the emotional loss as well. Most people come in feeling stressed out and upset about their hair loss. Once we get started and talk about the hair loss they are, or will be experiencing, and I share my experience, people feel more relaxed. I often get looks of confusion when I say I lost my hair. When I peal back a side of my hair system they are completely surprised to see I am in fact wearing a hair system. Seeing first hand that the hair systems look very realistic goes a long way towards making people see there is hope. They see even though they have been confronted with losing part of themselves with hair loss, it is possible to regain their look and self-confidence with a hair system designed, and styled to look just like them. I often hear at the end of a consult things like, “Wow this was a lot different than I thought it would be, you’ve made this a lot of fun”, or “I came in here with the weight of the world on my shoulders, and you’ve taken so much worry off my plate”, or “I came in here so depressed and now I am so full of hope.” It is always my goal to help my clients see that I can help them regain their hair and also their self-esteem. Hair loss is a sensitive topic because there is a lot of emotion behind the processes of losing one’s hair. I think I am able to approach such a sensitive topic easily because I understand and respect the emotions all hair loss clients feel on a personal level.”
